Thermo Scientific Heratherm Refrigerated Bench Top Incubator. An incubator holds a temperature steadily for days, which is a different problem from reaching one.
The models differ by IMP180 178L 120V, IMP180 178L 230V, IMP180 178L 240V, IMP400 381L 120V, IMP400 381L 230V and IMP400 381L 240V.
Cultures respond to the temperature they sit in for days, so what matters is that every position in the chamber holds the same value overnight and through a power blip — not how fast the chamber reaches set point. A door opened for thirty seconds should not cost an hour of recovery, and a shelf near the fan should not run a degree warmer than the one below it.
An ordinary incubator can only heat, so it cannot hold a temperature below the room. In a tropical laboratory that rules out a great deal: BOD at 20 °C, many environmental protocols and any cool storage need a refrigerated incubator, which both heats and cools. Specifying a heat-only unit for a 20 °C protocol is the most expensive mistake in this category.
Put an independent thermometer in the chamber and read it: the controller reports its own sensor, which is one point in a box that may not be uniform.
Supplied in 6 models.
