MACHEREY-NAGEL PEHANON pH Strips for Coloured Samples

PEHANON solves the problem that defeats every other pH strip: a sample with its own colour. Wine, juice, beer, dyed process liquor, fermentation broth, anything cloudy — dip an ordinary strip and you are comparing a stained pad against a chart printed on a card, with the sample's colour sitting on top of the indicator colour. The reading becomes a guess.

The scale is on the strip

PEHANON prints the reference colour scale on the strip itself, immediately beside the indicator zone. Both sit in the same liquid, take on the same background tint, and are compared to each other rather than to a separate card. The sample's own colour affects the reference and the reading equally, so it cancels out.

That is the whole idea, and it is why these are the strips specified for food, beverage and fermentation work where a paper strip would simply not give a defensible number.

Fourteen ranges

From pH 0.0–1.8 at the acid end through to 12.0–14.0, plus a wide 1–12 for orientation. The narrow ranges span roughly two pH units, which is where the on-strip scale earns its cost — resolving to a couple of tenths in a liquid you could not read at all with paper.

The indicator is bonded and does not bleed, so the sample is unaffected and can be returned or carried on with.
