A qualitative indicator paper that shows the narrow band between pH 6.7 and 7.9, either side of neutral. It gives a yes or a no, not a value.
Its whole value is how narrow it is. Where a universal paper covers 1 to 14 and resolves nothing near neutral, brilliant yellow spends its entire scale on the one region where drinking water, process water and biological samples actually live.
A qualitative paper does one thing and does it without ambiguity. There is no scale to interpolate and no lighting to argue about: the colour changes or it does not.
That makes it the right tool when the decision is binary — proceed or do not — and the wrong tool when anyone needs to know how far past the threshold the sample is. For a value, use an indicator paper with a scale or a meter.
Outside 6.7–7.9 it simply saturates; it tells you a sample is out of range but not how far.
