Hydrion wide-range papers read pH to each full unit across the scale, with a single clear colour match rather than the four-pad comparison that makes cheaper strips ambiguous. That single-match design is the reason these are the reference paper in food, water and general laboratory work: one colour, one chart, one answer.
Wide range is the right tool for orientation — checking that a buffer is roughly where it should be, that a rinse is neutral, that an incoming sample is not wildly off. For a reading finer than a whole pH unit, short-range Hydrion papers resolve to 0.5 units, and MicroFine grades read from as little as 0.001 mL of sample.

The dispenser is worth buying once: it holds the roll, cuts a clean length and keeps the colour chart attached to the paper it belongs to — charts separated from their roll are the most common cause of a misread. Thereafter buy the refill pack.
Note that the 0–14 and 1–12 papers are not interchangeable charts. Read each against the chart supplied with it.
