This Hanna Instruments portable meter measures conductivity and the three things derived from it.
Conductivity is a single measurement reported four ways for four audiences: EC for process work, TDS for drinking water, resistivity for ultrapure water and salinity for seawater and aquaculture. One instrument covering all four avoids converting by hand and getting the factor wrong.
An electrochemical meter is three things that fail separately: the electrode, which ages and eventually dies; the meter, which rarely goes wrong; and the calibration, which is only as recent as the last time somebody did it. Almost every bad reading traces to the first or the third.
Budget for electrodes as consumables, store them wet in storage solution rather than water, and calibrate against fresh buffers at the temperature you will measure at.
TDS is conductivity multiplied by a conversion factor that depends on what is dissolved; two meters set to different factors will disagree on the same water.
