This Hanna Instruments calibration solution measures standardised 0.1 N hydrochloric acid.
The tenfold stronger companion to the 0.01 N solution. A stronger titrant reaches an endpoint in fewer millilitres, which suits a concentrated sample; a weaker one gives finer resolution on a dilute one. Choosing between them is choosing your resolution.
A standard is only a standard while it is uncontaminated and in date. Pour what you need into a clean beaker, never dip an electrode into the bottle, and never return what you poured. Cap the bottle immediately — several of these solutions change value simply by standing open.
Write the opening date on the label. An expired or contaminated standard does not announce itself; it quietly calibrates every instrument in the laboratory to the wrong value.
Match the titrant strength to the sample: a titration finished in under a millilitre carries most of its error in the burette reading.
