A jet pump in stainless steel. It combines two things asked for together more often than it seems: the ability to draw from a shallow well, and a material that does not corrode in the water that comes out of it.
Well water is rarely neutral. It can be soft and therefore aggressive, slightly acidic, or carry dissolved minerals that attack cast iron from the inside. An iron pump in that water rusts through the casing, and the rust ends up in the tank and at the tap.
Where water is clean and neutral, iron costs less and lasts as long. Stainless is justified by the water, not by prestige.
Like every jet pump, it recirculates part of its flow through an ejector to draw water up from below. That lets it self-prime and work above the water level, where an ordinary centrifugal loses prime and runs dry.
