Self-priming means the pump clears the air out of its own suction line and fills with water without anyone priming it by hand. That sounds minor until the pump is in a shed at the far end of the property and somebody has to walk out there every time it loses prime.
Self-priming matters when the pump sits above the water level — a buried tank, a shallow well, a sump, a river. In that position an ordinary centrifugal loses prime every time the line drains, and with no water in the casing it does not pump: it runs dry and the seal fails.
If the pump always works flooded, below the liquid level, you are paying for something you do not need. There an ordinary centrifugal does the same job for less.
The AE series covers 1 to 25 hp, with 1 1/2″ NPT connections on the smaller models and up to 6″ NPT on the largest. Single-phase versions at 110/220 V suit domestic installation, three-phase at 220/440 V industrial.
Size against total head — static lift plus pipe losses — and check the pump still delivers the required flow at that head. Confirm phase count and voltage on site before ordering: a three-phase motor will not start on a single-phase service.
