Barnes Peripheral Pumps, BE Series

A peripheral pump is not a small centrifugal: it works on a different principle. The impeller carries short radial vanes at its rim and the liquid travels the peripheral channel several times before leaving, gaining pressure on each pass.

Low flow, high pressure

That geometry delivers high pressures from small motors, at the cost of reduced flow. It is exactly what a house needs: lifting water to a roof tank, giving a second-floor shower pressure, feeding a heater. Nobody needs a hundred gallons per minute in a home; they need it to arrive with force.

For the opposite job — moving large volume against little head, such as a pool or irrigation — a peripheral is the wrong choice and a volute pump does better for less.

An important limit

The semi-open impeller and tight clearances that give it pressure also make it intolerant of solids. Sand, rust from old pipe or sediment from a tank wear the vanes quickly and the pressure falls for good. Install with a filter if the water is not clean.

Two models, 0.5 and 1 hp, single phase at 110/220 V, with 1″ NPT suction and discharge.
