A jet pump driven by a diesel engine. It is the machine for a site with no mains supply where the work also runs for many hours at a stretch.
Both engines give the same independence from the grid, but they behave differently. Diesel burns less per working hour, tolerates sustained load better and lasts appreciably longer. In exchange it starts worse cold, weighs more and costs more up front.
The practical rule: if the pump works in bursts — an emergency, an occasional fill — petrol is the better buy. If it works full days on a farm or a site, diesel returns the difference in fuel and in years.

The ejector lets it self-prime and draw from a shallow well without hand priming, which is exactly what is needed when the pump is far from everything and nobody is going to walk out and prime it each morning.
