The United Scientific Porcelain Desiccator Plate carries samples above the desiccant bed inside a glass desiccator body. It seats on the vessel's internal shoulder and holds crucibles, weighing bottles and small glassware clear of the silica gel or calcium chloride below.
Glazed porcelain neither absorbs moisture nor contributes mass of its own, which matters when the plate shares a vessel with samples being weighed to four decimal places. It also accepts crucibles transferred directly from a muffle furnace, a routine step in ash and loss-on-ignition work that would crack a plastic shelf.
A field of 5 mm perforations lets dry air move freely between the sample space and the desiccant compartment, and a 25 mm centre hole gives tongs or a hook a purchase point for lifting the plate out without disturbing what sits on it.
Three diameters are stocked:
Select by the desiccator's inside diameter so the plate lies flat on the shoulder. An undersized plate rocks when weight is placed near its rim, and an oversized one will not seat at all.
