The Meker-type burner is what a bench reaches for when a Bunsen flame is not hot enough or not wide enough. The difference is the head: instead of a single open tube, a Meker burner ends in a grid that splits the gas into many small flames. Those merge into one broad, flat flame with no cool inner cone, and the result is both a higher working temperature and even heating right across the base of a crucible or flask.
That matters most in ashing and fusion work, where a Bunsen leaves the centre of the vessel cooler than its edges and the sample does not finish evenly. It is also the practical choice for heating larger vessels, where a narrow flame simply cannot cover the base.
Two gas types are offered:
The orifice is sized for one supply or the other and the two are not interchangeable, so order against the gas actually plumbed to the bench. A Meker head consumes considerably more gas than a Bunsen at full output; confirm the supply line can carry it before specifying several for one bench.
