The Fisher Scientific Heavy Glass Desiccator keeps hygroscopic samples, dried crucibles and moisture-sensitive reagents at a controlled humidity between weighings. The heavy-wall borosilicate body resists thermal shock and the chemical attack of common desiccants, so the same vessel serves routine gravimetric work for years.
The ground flange and matching knobbed lid seal against a thin film of grease, holding a dry atmosphere without a vacuum. A perforated plate — ordered separately — sits on the internal shoulder and separates the sample from the desiccant bed below, which keeps silica gel or calcium chloride from contaminating the sample.
Five inside diameters are offered, each paired with its own plate size:
Choose the diameter by the largest vessel that must sit flat on the plate, not by sample volume — crucibles and weighing bottles need clearance from the wall to be lifted with tongs. The 150 mm size covers most analytical routines; the 250 mm size suits batches of crucibles after muffle-furnace work.
This is a non-vacuum desiccator. For applications that need reduced pressure to accelerate drying, use a vacuum desiccator with a stopcock instead.
