The CoorsTek Porcelain Desiccator Plate is the shelf that separates the sample from the desiccant bed inside a glass desiccator. It rests on the internal shoulder of the body and carries crucibles, weighing bottles and small glassware clear of the silica gel or calcium chloride below.
Glazed porcelain is the right material for this job. It does not absorb moisture itself, so it adds nothing to the mass being measured; it tolerates items transferred straight from a muffle furnace without cracking; and it is unaffected by the desiccants and acid vapours normally present in the vessel.
Perforations of 5 mm let dry air circulate between the two compartments, with a larger 25 mm centre hole for lifting the plate out with tongs or a hook.
Three outer diameters are offered, each sized for a standard desiccator body:
Match the plate to the desiccator's inside diameter, not to its nominal size — the plate must sit flat on the shoulder with no rocking. A plate that is a size too small will tip when a crucible is set near its edge.
